The 8 Tbit/s DWDM equipment has been created, a 100 Gbit/s signal has been transmitted for 2,000 km

(Russian) Создано 8 Тбит/с DWDM оборудование, 100 Гбит/с передан на 2000км.

Moscow, May 10th, 2012 – The Russian Т8 Company has developed the first Russian 100 Gbit/s transponder. The high quality of the equipment is confirmed by the successful transmission of a 100 Gbit/s signal for 2,000 km via an 80-channel DWDM system.

The maximum capacity of an 80-channel DWDM system is 8 Tbit/s. Nowadays this class of systems is in high demand large providers. The Russian equipment with the best quality parameters of a signal in the world (the required OSNR) and competitive prices opens broad possibilities for Russian communication providers to master a 100 Gbit/s speed.

«To demonstrate capabilities of a DWDM system we have transmitted 100 and 40 Gbit/s channels for 2,000 km through a stage of amplifiers. The equipment has the big reserve in transmission distance up to 5-6 thousands of km. Transmission for long distances without intermediate stations is also urgent in Russia. A 100 Gbit/s has been transmitted for 400 km without intermediate amplifiers using the ROPA technology.

Successful system tests have become possible due to strenuous work of the Т8 engineer team; in our 100G product we have used the most modern technologies: the 100G DP-QPSK modulation format, the polarization signal multiplexing, the SoftFEC error correction algorithm, and signal processing for automatic dispersion correction up to 50,000 ps/nm. The transponder has the best signal quality parameters in the world: the required OSNR=12.5 dB. Due to excellent optical characteristics the transponder can be used at lines built for 10 Gbit/s without upgrading them. 100 and 40 Gbit/s channels have been transported through the 50 GHz grid, which allows creating networks with mixed types of traffic» – Vladimir Treschikov (Т8 CEO) said during the demonstration of 100 Gbit/s work.
